Links

Links can be used in different ways in Conducttr to direct players to specific content.

Benefit
Feature

Share exercise content directly, and let players verify a link's legitimacy before clicking it

News article links

Direct players to a different channel at the right narrative moment

Hyperlinks

Send players straight to a specific post and add a rich preview to messages, replicating real messaging app behaviour

Permanent links

Running

News article links

In article-based websites, you can share articles within the exercise.

All website links work across all channels. Whether you copy a link from the website, paste it into the address bar, or when you click to share article, both the URL and generated short link will be persistent.

Link type
Description

Copy

Copy link generates an internal link that can be pasted anywhere in your exercise and it will link to the referenced article (it will not work outside the Virtual Desktop)

External

External link generates a link that can be used outside the Virtual Desktop. The purpose of this is for when players need to create external reports (e.g. an intelligence summary INTSUM or situation report SITREP) in Powerpoint, say, or someother platform external to Conducttr. Clicking the external link will open open the browser and find the Conducttr content inside the exercise.

Click the Share icon at the top right corner of any article to share on available channels for your exercise.

Hover over URL

Participants can investigate potential phishing emails (verifying the legitimacy of a link) by hovering over it to reveal the actual URL:

Designing

Use hyperlinks to take players to a different channel during the exercise. You can insert hyperlinks for any kind of content, but the most popular uses include directing players to the Portal channel when new files have been uploaded and to a specific website in the Website/News channel.

Select the channel you want the player to be directed to

For news articles, you can select a specific website you want the player to be directed to. The latest article will be the first shown on the website page, so this is what players will see when they follow the hyperlink.

Hyperlinks in the Virtual Desktop

This link will take players directly to a specific piece of content. This is different to the hyperlink option because you can direct players to social media posts, as opposed to just the channel.

Get permanent links for MicroBlog (Twitter/X) or InstaMedia (Instagram) posts and link them in Msngr Plus. This embeds a rich preview of the content, the same kind you'd see in messaging apps like WhatsApp. You can also use permanent links for MicroBlog injects to replicate a quote retweet.

Things to consider

We recommend adding your permanent links near the end of an exercise build to ensure everything is up-to-date. Bear in mind that if you export and reimport an exercise file, the permanent links will change and therefore, no longer work (this is due to the fact that the link uses persona IDs which change during exporting and importing).

You can use a permanent link 'outside' of Conducttr as long as you are logged into the exercise e.g. if you're doing a presentation and want to show something specific in Conducttr, you can use the permanent link on one of your slides but make sure you're logged in.
