# Import Master Events List (MEL)

Import a Master Events List (MEL) from a .csv file is provided for data portability from other applications like Excel.

## Core import template

Use the import template to ensure this minimum amount of data matches that expected by Conducttr. The csv format is explained below.

{% file src="/files/QkHiiBhyZoHMifxosS18" %}

<figure><img src="https://3476309720-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsNKxYbIPgfYmCR9EJgAu%2Fuploads%2FF0e8TRab0ZVgzhzvOnky%2Fmel%20template%20example.png?alt=media&amp;token=1d6c722d-7376-456a-b8f7-c61d50f66190" alt=""><figcaption><p>Example use of the MEL template</p></figcaption></figure>

<table><thead><tr><th width="199.88885498046875">Column</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Day</strong></td><td>The event name. A change in value starts a new tab</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Serial</strong></td><td>The serial this inject belongs to</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Number</strong></td><td>Added for human reference but ignored by Conducttr when imported - injects are organised by serial and time</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Time</strong></td><td>The time at which this inject will come out after starting the exercise - the format is HH:mm:ss e.g. 00:00:10 is 10 seconds </td></tr><tr><td><strong>From</strong></td><td>The persona this inject will be sent from</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Faction</strong></td><td>The faction the persona belongs to</td></tr><tr><td><strong>To</strong></td><td>Who/where you want the inject to go e.g. All or to a position/team/superteam</td></tr><tr><td><strong>To type</strong></td><td><p>The recipient type. Blank or unmatched values default to position and create a new one.</p><p></p><p>Valid types:</p><ul><li><strong>Position</strong></li><li><strong>Team</strong></li><li><strong>Superteam</strong></li><li><strong>Role</strong> (links to an existing role or defaults to creating a position with the same name)</li><li><strong>Group</strong> (links to an existing group or defaults to creating a position)</li><li><strong>Conditional Group</strong> (links to existing conditional group or defaults to creating a position)</li></ul></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Team</strong></td><td>Used only during import, to keep positions with duplicate names unique (see below)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Method</strong></td><td>The channel you're sending to* (See note below)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Subject</strong></td><td>The subject of the inject</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Message</strong></td><td>The body of the inject</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Timestamp</strong></td><td>Sets the timestamp on the message - usually leave empty but can be set to a prior date. Accepts either an absolute datetime (<code>YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS</code>) or a relative offset (<code>3hours</code>, <code>5days</code>, etc.). Useful for "hiding" articles from search until you want them to be found but need to dated in the past. The relative offset is relative to date exercise was uploaded.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Expected Action</strong></td><td>Facilitator Guidance (only the Facilitator will see this in the MEL in the Facilitator Dashboard)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Expected Action Title</strong></td><td>Title for the facilitator guidance (displayed above Expected Action)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Expected Action ImageURL</strong></td><td>URL to an image (or video already uploaded to Conducttr) to display for this inject in the MEL. Again, only shown to Facilitator.</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="warning" %}
**\*Method**\
If the channel name doesn't match then the inject will default to Email. After importing, remember to double-check the inject channels.
{% endhint %}

:zap:The *Team* column keeps positions with duplicate names unique on import.&#x20;

If you're sending *To* a position (e.g. "Position A") that already has a player assigned (e.g. "Team A" > "Player A"), enter "Team A" in the Team column. Conducttr uses this to give same-named positions unique names on import.

<figure><img src="https://3476309720-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsNKxYbIPgfYmCR9EJgAu%2Fuploads%2F6i0mkRE4VJI0b2M2EyIF%2Fcsv.png?alt=media&amp;token=a9c1529f-8074-4c9e-a0dc-4eb013ca62a5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Leave Team blank for a duplicate "Position A" and Conducttr appends a number instead (e.g. "Position A1") to keep it unique.

## Extended template

The extended format provides additional columns to **import questions, data points, past comments** and **hacked website details**:

{% file src="/files/AeTtIcrotOUGZzmCdgju" %}

<table><thead><tr><th width="200">Column</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>To Msngr+ Group</strong></td><td>Messenger Plus group</td></tr><tr><td><strong>ImageURL</strong></td><td>URL for attached media</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Subtitle</strong></td><td>Subtitle text for articles on the Website/News channel</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Question Type</strong></td><td><ul><li>No Question (default)</li><li>Choice</li><li>Open Text</li><li>Arrange</li><li>Dropdown</li><li>Multiselect</li><li>(Media pop up) Video Trigger</li><li>Phone Call</li></ul></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Text Button</strong></td><td>Question button text. Add further columns for more than one button e.g. Text Button 2, Text Button 3, Text Button 4 (the max is 4)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>DataPoint</strong></td><td>Name of inject data point</td></tr><tr><td><strong>persona_url</strong></td><td>Populated in Conducttr. URL for the persona image (usually the social media profile image)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>message_url</strong></td><td>Populated in Conducttr. URL for the message</td></tr><tr><td><strong>PastComments</strong></td><td>Simulated past comments shown under a social media post. Format: <code>"Persona Name","Comment text",</code> — repeat the pattern for multiple comments</td></tr><tr><td><strong>PostType</strong></td><td><em>post</em> (default) - change to <em>action to</em> hack/unhack website or display/hide website details. This only needs setting for hack/unhack and website-detail action</td></tr><tr><td><strong>HideWebDetails</strong></td><td><em>0</em> = not hidden (default)<br><em>1</em> = hidden</td></tr><tr><td><strong>IsHacked</strong></td><td><em>0</em> = not hacked (default)<br><em>1</em> = hacked</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Tag</strong></td><td>Hex colour code when inject is displayed in the Editor e.g. ef6c00</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Views</strong></td><td>Number of times the post was viewed</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Comments</strong></td><td>Number of comments received</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Shares</strong></td><td>Number of times the post was shared</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Likes</strong></td><td>Number of likes received</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Dislikes</strong></td><td>Number of dislikes received</td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
You might notice some extra columns when exporting MELs (e.g. On, Reply, ButtonText) but these are system-populated and you don't need to include these on import.
{% endhint %}

### How to import

Under `Exercise` in your Editor, click the import icon:

<figure><img src="https://3476309720-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsNKxYbIPgfYmCR9EJgAu%2Fuploads%2FKRzXedD4ro4VE2bngqfE%2Fimport%20mel%20template.png?alt=media&amp;token=af0dbac9-aab8-4492-90f3-b179b23b5630" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

<figure><img src="https://3476309720-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FsNKxYbIPgfYmCR9EJgAu%2Fuploads%2FBiMkcPDM8AKWrIY3wOGI%2Fafter%20import.png?alt=media&amp;token=551d113a-a0a8-440d-aded-3be375cd3a6a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="info" %}
A second import will add to — not overwrite — what you already have in your Exercise tab.&#x20;
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://helpdocs.conducttr.com/feature-documentation/designing-and-running/master-events-list/import-master-events-list-mel.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
